WALK SUMMARY

The fascinating World's Most Amazing Places, a compendium of World Heritage Sites; says:

"The Bialowieża Forest dates back to 8000 BC and is the only remaining example of the original forests that once covered much of Europe. Located on the watershed of the Baltic and Black seas, this immense forest of evergreens and broadleaved trees is the home of some remarkable animal life, including rare mammals such as the wolf, the lynx and the otter, as well as some 300 European Bison, a species that was reintroduced in 1929. Bialowieża National Park comprises about one-tenth of the entire forest."

You would need a particular interest to come here specially, but don't miss walking here if in the area or passing - although one visitor has said The (Belorussian) forest "was the greatest disappointment ever as a World Heritage Site" (This illustrates the great problem with the politics of the WHS system - every country has to be entitled to its WHS.)

Have a look at the dreaded TripAdvisor . You should get good, current views on this walk/area.
