WALK SUMMARY

This magnificent tract of cloud forest lies in the Tandayapa Valley on the western slopes of the Andes some 2 hrs northwest of Quito. Its steep slopes harbour an extraordinary diversity of bird and plant life, including up to 20 of Ecuador's 134 species of hummingbird, (over 40 species have been counted within the Tandayapa Valley!) and innumerable species of epiphytes (plants living on trees).

There is a plethora of fine walks here; an excellent network of trails enables you to explore these mysterious forests, likely as not in mist in the afternoons. You can traverse, or drop steeply to gorgeous waterfalls.

The lodge has good food and accommodation, so, while this is good day expedition from Quito (take in Pululahua Crater and the pleasing town of Mindo while at it), spending a night of two here is a delight and you won't find yourself repeating your routes (much).

The reserve is the brainchild of Richard Parsons, and has his individual imprimatur: Walkopedia had a very happy long afternoon walking there.
