WALK SUMMARY

This beautiful,  gently undulating park behind the Royal Summer Palace of Nymphenburg on the outskirts of Munich contains delightful deciduous woodland intersected by long, curving, grassy dells, canals and winding brooks. In it are nestled lakes, lodges, follies and a bathhouse, many with beautiful old Chinese wallpaper.
 
You need to spend time winding back from the perpiheries to meet the grand [2km central canal to enjoy its changing perspectives, sitting under trees by lakes, and gazing down the long sweeps of rides in the dry bottoms below carefully-placed, fine trees. It is all very reminiscent of great English parkland, albeit more thickly wooded. But then the summers are hotter here.
 
Take a picnic and plenty of time. It won't be wasted. A great day away from the streets of Munich.
