WALK SUMMARY
This is a beautiful and leisurely walk down the gorgeous Thethi valley, from Thethi to Nderlysa. While it is some 8km, you are unlikely to want to rush it, as there is a lot to see and enjoy, so you are likely to take at least 4 hrs over it.
You'll need to check out Thethi's fine (if heavily restored) old church and its famous blood feud tower as you leave the village.
The trail drops through meadows and woodland, passing homesteads and a side-walk to a gorgeous waterfall crashing down the valley wall. Below here it drops through terraces dating back to the late Bronze Age.
The views are superb throughout, down the valley with cliffs and jagged peaks soaring on each side. You are well above the roaring Shala river for most of the way, but drop down a steep ledge below the mouth of the Grunasi Canyon to join it crossing on a wooden bridge shortly above Nderlysa.
Nderlysa is delightful, a hugely atmospheric group of dilapidated steadings, now being restored for tourism, set in meadows at the injunction of two rivers.
