WALK SUMMARY

Kandy's Botanical Gardens, a short way out of town, are a must for anyone who likes a prolonged stroll through gorgeous landscaped groves and lawns which skilfully move you from formal palm avenues to arboretum meadows dotted with intriguing trees and the occasional white long-horned cow placidly chewing with its cud. And everywhere is lush and interesting vegetation.

Highlights include palm avenues, the view across the great lawn and the orchid house. And the weird specimen trees, including some amazing contorted figs, and the extensive and delightful arboretum groves.

There is some good people- and culture-watching to be had. And history.

1.5 hrs minimum, but bring a picnic and make it 3: this deserves to be taken at a stroll, with a lot of viewing time.

You get a nice map at the entrance.
