Iceberg/Hooker Glacier Lake
Key information: Iceberg/Hooker Glacier Lake
- Walk up a magical, heavily glaciated glen to the freezing Iceberg Lake at the foot of the vast glacier below spectacular Mt Cook.Fascinating vegetation; multiple glaciers (look in awe at the huge Mueller Glacier coming in from the left); geological intrigue: all surrounded by snowy peaks and vast broken cliffs as you cross and re-cross the roaring snowmelt river. The lake itself is extraordinary: small icebergs calved from the glacier floating in its milky brown waters at the base of the Hooker Glacier. All beneath Mt. Cook's jagged, soaring peak at the end of the valley.
