I chose to avoid the reservation system and walked up the 11km fire road. It wasn't as unpleasant as I thought but it does drain some energy from you. When I got to Lake O'Hara I could tell it was quite snobby with little services so one should keep expectations down. I was also told that it was WAY better than Lake Louise but that is just more hype. It's a beautiful lake and the hike was enjoyable, but keep expectations in check. I took the Wiwaxy Gap to the Huber Ledges to Lake Oesa and back to the cabin. It was early July and most of the snow was melted from the hike. I would recommend going up Wiwaxy Gap since going down with narrow ledges would be very dangerous. Going down towards Lake Oesa benefits from many stone steps to make it easier on the knees. There was a little bit of scrambling but not too much. A moderate hike. It was about 4 hours plus 2.5 hours each time on the fire road.
