The park provides homes for many animals, including wolf, coyote, cougar, grizzly bear and American black bear. The gorgeous grasslands are home to the famous elk, mule deer and white tailed deer.
There are many wonderful trails, the best known being the Carthew-Alderson Trail and the Tamarack Trail.
This can be tough walking in high, remote mountains, on which you will have to be self-sufficient. Come prepared.

WALK SUMMARY
Waterton Lakes NP represents the southern end of the Rocky Mountain Natural Region, where some of the most ancient mountains in the Rockies abruptly meet the prairie.
The outstanding landscape has been shaped by fire, wind and flooding and contains a rich variety of plants and wildlife. The National Park contains 45 different habitat types and more than half of Alberta's plant species can be found here.
The park provides homes for many animals, including wolf, coyote, cougar, grizzly bear and American black bear. The gorgeous grasslands are home to the famous elk, mule deer and white tailed deer.
