Key information: Bibbulmun Track

  • The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world's great long distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1,000km from Kalamunda (Perth Hills) to Albany (South Coast) through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia.
  • Join a guided tour of specially selected sections of this epic trail with Australian Walking Holidays, an excellent way to take in the highlights.
  • This walk has been recommended to us, but we have as yet little information on it. Anything out there? Anyone got any photos?
  • Question from a member (Nov 13): "Hi Looking forward to walking pat of the Bibbulmin trail in Western Australia which I got to know well when I lived in Perth in the 1980s. All things change -but one of its jewels was the circular walk from Pemberton through 70kms or so of prime karri forest known as the Warren circuit. I walked this circuit in 1983 -and again in 1993. I am hoping to do it again in November but there is no mention of circuit trails on-line. If it has been de-listed and signage has been removed -it may not be possible. What a pity. Circular walks (and there were only 3 on the Bibbulmin in its earlier days) are so useful if you just have one car and don't want to be confined to 'there and back' day-walks. Maybe someone knows what the current situation is?"

I started this walk in 2010 and made it from the start at Kalamunda to Mount Dale then had to quit as I needed treatment for cancer. I restarted this year and I love being out on the track again. So far I have done Mount Dale to North Bannister, a total of about 100Km. The forest is very beautiful in winter which is the best time to walk this track, it being way too hot (40+) in summer. Here are two sets of photos, the first from Brookton Highway to Sullivan Rock and the second from Sullivan Rock to North Bannister. #1 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/isiue6fbw6mkmgj/AACUZ3D4ayL2OKZ0MEUzsLzDa?dl=0 #2 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4ffup95f2f1xu2i/AACE8gNuQZyvLGkcz9DHC81za?dl=0 2 Friends and I shall start the 3 day section North Bannister to Dwellingup in about 2 weeks. Will try to remember to take some photos. Then in September I tackle Kumano Kodo which should be much easier and more civilised. John Fenn York WA

Walkopedia says: thanks, John, very helpful.

Small world - we just did the Kumano Kodo (June 2015), and have just loaded the results. Enjoy your journey - it is very special (and a Top 100 walk). We'd love to hear your thoughts.
