First Western Road
Key information: First Western Road 
- Originally a 101-mile road, the first crossing of the Blue Mountians west of Sydney. Cut in 6 months in 1814-1815 by convict labour. Now superceded, but stretches still make very intriguing walking.
- The great feat was the descent of the western escarpment by Mt. York, a switchback ramp cut out of beetling cliffs.
