WALK SUMMARY

This six day walk (route maps provided by ATG) in Catalonia goes through the foothills of the Pyrenees from the small town of Rupit to Besalu. It includes two days of out and back walks around Rupit and Santa Pau. Much of the walk follows GR footpaths. 

The terrain is varied and includes walking along mountain ridges, in forests, through farmland, on country lanes, and some modest climbing. The longest day is 13 miles. The countryside is stunning, and on several days you get frequent magnificent views of the mountains in the distance. The towns (Rupit, Santa Pau, Besalu) are also beautiful.

We went in April and the weather was lovely - there was some rain but it never lasted a whole day - and the temperature was great for walking.

I recently completed an ATG walk from Rupit to Besalu, Spain, in Catalonia around the foothills of the Pyrenees. The walk started in Rupit and followed a GR trail for a good portion of the way.  It went to Hostalets, Joanetes, Santa Pau and Besalu.  The walk form Rupit to Hostaletes is particularly stunning, with some stretches on ridges and views of the mountains for much of the way.

There is also a nice out and back from Rupit to Tavertet that is along a ridge opposite the valley from the one you walk to Hostaletes.
