WALK SUMMARY
A deservedly popular and (relatively) easy trek in Govind National Park in the Dhaula Dhar Range, to the gorgeous high meadows at Har Ki Dun, below a selection of dramatic mountains and glaciers of the high Dhaula Dhar. Then back a bit and on to the lovely and sacred Ruinsara Lake below the Swagarohini range. Then back to the beginning.
Fields, forest, high meadow, high range: you meet a lot of landscape and life zones on this trek. And you pass through mountain villages and their fields and orchards on the way.
You can continue south over the Bali (Yamunotri) Pass (4,600m) to get outstanding views of The Swagorihini and on south to Hanuman Chalti - a further 5 days.
Best months: May to Mid-October. May/June for wildflowers, from Mid-September to avoid monsoon and get the best views.
Tough walking in remote mountains, where altitude can cause problems. Come fully prepared, including proper acclimatisation. Briefish info in the now quite old Trekking and Climbing in the Indian Himalaya by Harish Kapadia. Check the current permit requirements. Find relevant books on Amazon.
