Pin Parbati Pass
Key information: Pin Parbati Pass
- Fine and varied 8-day trek, climbing the beautiful upper Parbati Valley (meadows and forests with spectacular backgrounds) above the Kullu Valley, climbing to high pasture and rock, crossing the high (4,810m) and rough Pin Parbati Pass, to descend to the bare, Trans-Himalayan Buddhist area of Spiti. Can be done in reverse (but starts much higher , at over 3,500m)
- Gorgeous and varied scenery (the views in the high valleys are stunning - grand peaks (including the Kullu Eiger), glaciers and ice fields), as well as the different but always fascinating Hindu and Buddhist worlds. A trek with huge variety.
- This is a tough walk in high, remote mountains with exposed sections on which you will have to be self-sufficient and where altitude can cause real problems. Come prepared. Travel July-Mid-October, Mid-September onward to miss the monsoon. Even in high summer the pass is always snowy. Planet's Trekking in the Indian Himalayas has brief information and see Trekking and Climbing in The Indian Himalaya for a longer chapter.
