Lagunas de Mojanda
Key information: Lagunas de Mojanda
- Three lakes set high in the paramo grassland under Cerro Fuya Fuya, a dramatic, broken former volcano south of Otavalo. Superb views of the surrounding mountains.
- Plenty of pick-your-own-trails from the lakes, which you can reach by road from Otavalo. Circuit the main lake in 3.5 hrs or climb to the summit of Fuya Fuya in 2 hrs (3.5 hrs round trip).
- Or trek across wild paramo to Esperanza (near Tabacundo) - 10km, 4-5 hrs; or to Cochasqui, an archaeological site, some 20km to the south.
- Strenuous walking in high, remote mountains with unpredictable weather where altitude is an issue. Come prepared.
- ANYONE GOT ANY GOOD PHOTOS? WE WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO POST THEM!
