Hugely diverse park in the south of Ecuador near Vilacamba, ranging from rainforest at 900m to paramo and peaks at 3,600m. Gorgeous glacially scooped lakes in the highlands. Most of the podocarpus (native conifers) are long gone, as is quite a lot of the animal life, but prepare for glorious birdlife.

This can be demanding walking in high, remote mountains with unpredictable weather, on which you will have to be self-sufficient and where altitude can cause problems. Come prepared.
