The most interesting and affecting U.S Civil War battle site is Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. You can argue that this three-day bloodbath (July 1863) changed the course of the war in the Union?s favor and was therefore critical to US history, especially the ensuing abolition of slavery by Lincoln in 1865. Something like 50,000 casualties suffered on both sides at Gettysburg alone, almost as many Americans as were killed in Vietnam over about 12 years.
