WALK SUMMARY

A superb 9.3km, 3hr tramp from the Wildcat Canyon trailhead on the Kolob Terrace Road  across the grass, pine forest, slickrock of the plateau and the rocky slopes above the magnificent Wildcat Canyon between the main Zion area and Kolob to the north-west, to the West Rim travelled at Lava Point. You should make the 2+mile side-trip to the Northgate Peaks for exceptional southward views.

The Northgate Peaks are a stunning southward view point and a good walk in their own right. The trail there-and-back from the Wildcat Canyon trail head - is a pretty level 13+ km round trip through pine forest most of the way. Start on the Wildcat Canyon trail, then turn off southward for the Northgate peaks.

The Grand Canyon with Zion and Bryce Canyon NPs – Cicerone: excellent, includes all relevant practical information. Recommended. Find relevant books on Amazon.

See our Zion National Park page for more general and practical information and photos.
