Stowe Gardens

Stowe House has probably the UK's, and is a candidate for the world's, finest landscape gardens.

A perfect combination of folds of land have been clothed in a gorgeous selection of lakes, ponds, and planting by Capability Brown; and thronged with temples, pavilions, follies, monuments, statues and bridges, all seen from different angles along carefully constructed lines of sight and vistas through frames of foliage. The gardens are presided over by the magnificent south front of the great house and the huge Corinthian Arch on the hillside beyond the lakes to the south.

This is a poetic and intellectual landscape, as well as a beautiful one: an inspiration for both thought and feeling.
